August 09 News Update

Aug 09

Taiwanese band Sodagreen made a little bit of history this summer by being the first to record, mix and master their album, 'Summer', entirely at Strongroom/AIR. Almost all engineering was handled by in-house staff (mix duties were split between Tom Bailey, Nick Crevanaro and Dan Frampton).

Our engineers have had a busy summer, with Lee Slater engineering on tracks for Kurran and The Wolfnotes and Glasvegas and Ashley Workman working alongside producer Joseph Mount on new albums for Metronomy and Your Twenties.

The AIR Management chaps have been out in force too; as I write this, AIR Management's Pedro Ferreira is in Strongroom 3 mixing the new album from Inner City Pirates, which he recorded at The Smokehouse earlier this month whilst Steve Orchard is mixing Midlands 4-piece Dakota's debut album in Strongroom 1. Nick Wollage is currently engineering Dame Shirley Bassey's first album in 10 years, due for release on Geffen this autumn. Produced by David Arnold, the songs have been written by contemporary artists better known for performing their own material. Other fine albums rolling off the production line recently include the sophomore release for Norway's excellent Serena Maneesh and something new from Dr. Hook frontman Dennis Locorriere.

Current film/TV music projects include a new George Michael DVD; a Razorlight live documentary for web broadcaster Babelgum; animated blockbuster 'Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs' (featuring James Caan and Mr T!) and 'Green Zone' an Iraq-based action adventure starring Matt Damon .

Launched earlier this year, AIR Mastering has quickly established itself as one of the finest mastering rooms in town. Engineers Ray and Matt have been kept very busy on a range of projects including the new Seasick Steve album, which he insisted on playing to his record company off vinyl. Nice one, Seasick!

Some of the other exciting and interesting people and projects at Strongroom/AIR over recent weeks include: Paul McCartney, Yusuf Islam, Jay-Z, Taio Cruz, Little Boots, Girls Can't Catch, Nick Cave, Sister Act, Major Lazer, Peter Gabriel, Stereophonics, Mika, Kele Okereke, Erol Alkan, Late Of The Pier, Russell Brand, Peter Andre and... The Pope - really!
